Dear Parents,
Here is some information about our learning for the week beginning 1st March
Maths
- Use strategies to solve multiplication and division number stories.
- Explore and learn strategies for division.
- Express remainders in division as a fraction and a decimal.
- Review rotations
- Use a protractor to measure angles.
Language
- Reading: As it is Literacy Week next week, there will be lots of opportunities to read. Please keep supporting reading at home. Remember to record when you listen to your child read in their green book. Please add comments as this supports our assessments and planning.
-Spellings: New spellings were put on Edmodo on Sunday. They will be tested on Thursday.
-Grammar: We will be looking at synonyms for words and choosing powerful words to persuade and create an impact on the audience.
-Writing: Read an advert and discuss how and why images, words and interactive elements are used. Understand and learn about how choice of language can impact an audience and is used differently for purpose. Students use different techniques to create an advert to appeal to different audiences.
Unit of Inquiry
We will be beginning our new unit of inquiry connected to the transdisciplinary theme: How the World Works. Our new central idea will be: People invent and improve machines to make life easier. This week, we will be looking at the central idea, pre-assessing what they already understand about this topic and exposing the children with visual and written stimuli to 'hook' them into the new unit. We will also be giving the children a creative problem to solve. They must create a simple machine, device, contraption to transport an object from one side of a 'river' to another. It is going to be a lot of fun watching the children turn into inventors!
Dates to note:
Sunday 1st March - St David's Day! This is the National Day for Wales.
Thursday 5th March - Students will come to school dressed as a book character of their choice; Students will have the opportunity to go to the Library Fair and purchase books.
Have a great weekend everyone.
