Dear G4 Parents,
Here is some information about our learning for the week beginning 17th May.
Maths
- Review Unit 7 Maths Assessment
- Measure and add distances
- Find the median and other landmarks of a set of measurements
- Find the perimeter of triangles.
- Practice measuring distance to the nearest foot.
- Experience creating a scale drawing on a grid using measurements and a given scale.
- Review basic area concepts
- Practice estimating the area of a polygon by counting unit squares and using a scale drawing to find one.
Language
- Reading: Students will work in groups on the guided reading timetable. Students will be either working guided with a teacher, working on spellings, completing an independent reading activity or independently reading. Students will be reading a variety of different poems; Comprehension questions will be focused on poetry; Red books comprehension homework will be beginning again this week.
-Writing: Use grammar focus work of complex and compound sentences in written work; Write an introduction about the G4 created country, summarising the main features; Write in detail about focus areas of the G4 created countries; Collate individually created information to create a Guide Book for the G4 class country.
-Spelling: Due to the Summative Assessment, the spelling test was not completes last week. This will take place this Sunday and new spellings will be given out at the end of the day.
Unit of Inquiry
- Learn about different types of Government; Consider the organisation of different Governments; Share opinions connected to positive and negative aspects of differing Governments.
- Being work on the Unit 5 Summative Assessment...Each G4 class will create a new and imaginary country. The students will be placed into committees to develop each aspect of the new country drawing on the Unit's Central Idea: Language reflects social and cultural context. The groups will begin preparing for the 'vacation day' in the following week where each class will visit each other's country.
