Dear G4 Parents,
Firstly, many congratulations to all G4 Students. They, once again, completed their MAP Tests in a calm and sensible manner. The results are still being collated but from what we have seen so far, there have been many improvements in standards. Well done students of G4!
Here is some information about our learning for the week beginning 7th June.
Maths
Revise for the end of Unit 8 Assessment:
- Find perimeter of polygons
- Find area of polygons by counting and by using formula.
- Draw polygons of given area of perimeters.
- Solve word problems connected to scale drawings.
- Add and subtract fractions
New Unit (Unit 9):
- Guide the use of percents in describing real-life situations; Reinforce naming of equivalencies among fractions, decimals and percentages.
- Reinforce naming fourths, fifths and tenths and decimals and percents; Introduce solving percent problems by using equivalent fractions.
Language
- Reading: Read through a range of different poems which demonstrate different forms, themes and writing styles; Analyse poems using the SMILE technique (Structure, Meaning, Imagery, Language, Effects on reader).
-Writing:
Use a given formula to write a diamante poem; Organise poetry in the shape of the theme or message; Understand the organisation of shape poetry; Use a given rhyming structure to create a kyrielle poem; Reflect and analyse poetry styles used over the past weeks; Write a poem using a preferred poetic form; Understand the 'form' of a free verse poem; Write own examples of a free verse poem.
Unit of Inquiry
- Students analyse a poem of their choice using the SMILE technique; Peer assess analyses and edit work after peer and personal reflections.
- Students understand the term 'expression'; They will work in groups to create lists of WHAT they believe that poetry could express and HOW it could be shown.
- Connect poetry PURPOSE to EXPRESSION. Consider the following questions:
Why are poems written? What are some of the purposes? What are poems trying to express?
- Connect poems to particular moods. Justify their answers by supporting their ideas and opinions with evidence from the text.
Dates to note:
Thursday 11th June - Own clothes day. Students are required to bring a 5 AED donation if they wish to wear their own clothes.
