Dear Parents,
Grade 4 are having a wonderful time here in RAK!
First, we went to a Mangrove where the children learnt about different vegetation and wildlife. They walked through a low water channel and there were many comedy moments where shoes were briefly lost and had to be pulled out! The students then scampered around with nets, collecting crabs, jelly fish, star fish.....such fun! After a large Subway sandwich and cookie, the children went and carried out surveys about litter. They created charts to note what they had collected and where they found it; after we discussed the findings. There have been many opportunities to think about consider responsibilities.
We then continued our journey to our camp. On arrival, the children were given some free time and played volleyball, went swimming and burnt off some built up energy! They then washed and prepared themselves for dinner. We were happy to find large portions of spaghetti bolognese (plus a veggie option!) and fruit awaiting us.
After dinner, we had the 'egg drop challenge.' The children had to work in small teams to design and build a device to protect an egg which would be dropped off the top of the building. Before the testing, the teams had to think about a name for their egg invention, a theme tune and the background story. Most of the eggs survived the fall.....however the children were delighted to see the failure of the teacher team!! The teacher's took it well but the memory of the defeat (and the ridicule!) may last for a while!!
A good nights sleep was had by all and by 7, everyone was tucking into toast and jam, eggs and beans, Coco Pops and fruit.
Activities have now started with teams working around a rotation of wall climbing, low ropes, sensory trail, Jacob's Ladder and many other team building activities. There are lots of smiley faces all round. Everyone is having a great time and we are very impressed by the children's self management skills and enthusiasm for life!
Well done Grade Four!!!
